Barney Frank addresses the Internet
Barney Frank answers questions from Reddit users. This is a 5-part video. Barney Frank is one of the few openly gay members of Congress. He’s also blunt and to the point, which I rather like.

The US has a problem. It’s a fairly large problem, and it comes from On High. The Fish rots from the head, and all that. The problem is governmental corruption. The problem is corporate lobbying. The problem is, well the problem really is that the US government isn’t afraid of her people.
Just a quick note, a heads up if you will, because apparently this is breaking news. Completely shocking information, stunning and ground breaking.
If your domain name features sexually explicit language, you may find yourself blacklisted! I know, this is a shock. It seems that someone, in their infinite wisdom, decided that if you put “cum” all by itself in your domain name, as in www.something-cum-randomletters.com, you’re probably not a company conventional professionals want to hear from. And no, the usage wasn’t Latin.
Just thought I’d share, because apparently there are people that this information surprises.
I figure for my first real post, I would come out swinging. This is sort of an attempt to set the tone for the entire site.
I caught another entertaining Jon Stewart piece from his show, the Daily Show (several hoops to jump through to view it anywhere other than the US, which is something for another post methinks). As always, he was full of witty commentary and pointed out obvious and a few unobvious flaws in an existing system. The system du jour was CNN and their 24 hour news program. Effectively Jon’s job on this topic is little more than showing a clip of CNN’s coverage, making a purposefully naïve statement and then showing a second clip from the same organization which makes them (and those who believe Jon’s naïve statement) look like a bunch of gibbering idiots. Then back to Jon with a faux-confused look on his face, queue laughter. And we love him for it. It’s an easy bit to do, and I certainly don’t hate Jon for doing it. It’s brilliantly amusing and provides some people with the much needed If A and B then C dot connecting. At this point, it’s almost not comedy, but a necessary public service.
That it’s so easy to do, is a symptom of an illness or failure that I wish to discuss. Why are these self-titled News programs so easy to roast? Read the rest of this entry »
Hello and Welcome to Apathetic Goldfish. I am working on making this site functional, which is going to take a bit. Getting the theme right might be my largest challenge. This one, while reasonable, has very little to do with my over-all site theme.
And yes, I will stop with the fish-based puns soon.
Watch this space.
